Christmas Magic & New Beginnings

Madrid is a very lovely place to be at Christmas time. Beautiful decorations line the streets and there are lots of Christmas markets to visit. People line up for blocks to buy lottery tickets, which I find quite interesting! And I can't say I really miss the snow ;)

Unfortunately, it has been a tough few weeks for me, as things didn't work out with my first host family. I'm feeling thankful that I decided to go through an agency as the process to find a new host family has been very easy.

I found a new family quickly, but there was some in-between time before I could move into their house, so I went on a little adventure! I traveled to the lovely town of El Puerto de Santa Maria, right on the coast of Spain. I stayed with my distant cousins, and had a great time exploring the beautiful town and beyond, and practicing my Spanish. Thank you so much Juan Luis and Nuria for having me, I am so grateful for your hospitality. And thank you to Nena and Cecelia for helping me to be in contact with them. I truly have the best family ever!

I took the time while I was there to explore the city, and two near it as well: Jerez de la Frontera and Cadiz. Here are some pictures from my adventures:

After my big adventure, I returned to Madrid and moved in with my new family. I am all settled in now, but am only here for a few days before heading out again! My mom and sister will arrive on the 23rd to visit me, and I can't wait! We will be taking a tour around Andalucia, the south of Spain. Stay tuned to hear all about our Christmas vacation!
