The First Week!

Hello family and friends!

I have arrived to Spain safely and am planning on keeping you all updated through this blog. I thought I should recap my first week and share all of things I've been learning, as well as what I've done so far.

I arrived here in the evening on September 2 after a few days of travel. After a few sleepless nights and finally getting my luggage (it got lost for a couple of days), I am beginning to feel more settled here. I love my host family, the parents are so kind and the kids and I have been having a great time together so far.

There are a few major differences I've already noticed between Spain and Canada. First of all, it is not common to take your shoes off in the house! Second, it is commonplace to give a kiss on each cheek as a greeting. I keep wanting to shake hands whenever I meet someone new and get a funny look.

A few highlights so far have been:

1. Royal Seat of San Lorenzo de El Escorial

This is a Monastery that my host family took me to for a tour. It was absolutely breathtaking and very neat to learn about some of Spain's history.

2. Getafe

The suburb where I'm located, Getafe, is very nice to walk around in the center. There are a lot of parks and public places with exercise equipment to use. There is a beautiful cathedral here as well.

3. Madrid

My host family has taken me into Madrid's centre twice. Once, to tour around with them, and another time to show me how to use the metro and explore a bit on my own. There is so much to see and do, with museum after museum and lots of cool shops and restaurants. I can't wait to explore it more!

Now it is the first week of school for the kids so things will start to become more routine with after school activities, homework, etc. As I travel around more, meet up with other Au Pairs, and have more to report I will be sure to update you all here!

Thank you for reading and I hope you enjoyed!
